Varsity softball suffers tough losses in back-to-back games versus Greenville

Heading into Wednesday’s game against Greenville, the varsity softball team was dealing with its first taste of adversity. The team suffered a tough loss against a legitimate East Kentwood team. FHC wanted to get back on track with wins against Greenville in its doubleheader. Unfortunately for FHC, the Rangers struggled in both games. In the first game, the girls struggled to hit the ball, which led to a 13-2 loss. Some key players in that game were seniors Kylie Halverson and Faith Addington. Heading into the second game, the girls found more success hitting the ball, yet struggled against the Yellow Jackets’ hitting. The Rangers suffered another loss, losing 19-9 in the second game of the doubleheader. A few players that starred in the game were sophomore Maya Hosler and junior Alyssa Wierenga.

In their first game, the girls had a drought of hitting the ball. They only had four hits in the game, two of which were from senior Kylie Halverson. Kylie was 2-3 from the plate during the game, including her first career home run. She also had both runs from the game. Faith Addington, FHC’s pitcher for the game, played well throughout the first five innings. Heading into the sixth inning, Faith had only given up six runs, so the Rangers felt confident. But after a seven-run inning, the girls found themselves down by double-digit runs.

The second game was a better showcase of hitting for the Rangers. In this game, the girls dominated the plate by scoring nine runs total. Maya Holser had a great game, hitting 3-4 with three RBI’s. Alyssa Wierenga also played well by hitting 2-2, scoring three times, and having two RBI’s. Kylie scored twice, along with senior Abby Davis adding two hits. FHC also struggled with errors during the second game. The team gave up a season-high of 19 runs in the loss to Greenville.

FHC falls to 0-4 and an 0-2 conference record. The Rangers will get a chance at revenge as they take on Greenville this Friday, April 16th. This becomes a big game for the ladies, as a win would bring momentum and their first win of the season.
