Every year, fans flock to the Big House for Michigan football games. The biggest stadium in the United States holds over 107,000 fans every game day. This year, Michigan Football is selling out games due to their true freshman, million-dollar quarterback – Bryce Underwood. As the fall continues, many more games will be held at the historic venue. This stadium has always held big sporting events throughout the years. But this stadium has never held a concert.
However, on Saturday, September 27, Zach Bryan made history by selling out The Big House and then some for his concert. The record-breaking concert sold over 112,000 tickets, becoming the largest ticketed concert ever in the United States. The previous record was held by George Strait with just over 110,000 tickets sold. The 29-year-old Country Artist has sold out concerts all over the country. But because of the sheer size of the Big House, and the people that are down by the stage, which was put on the field, he was able to fill the biggest stadium in the United States. Bryan has been on tour all year, traveling to different stadiums and filling the crowds with avid country music fans. The concert at The Big House concluded his year on tour. He came out to the stage and was already in the crowd’s good graces as he came out to Mr. Brightside, which is played at every Michigan Football game. This entrance had the already amped up crowd ready for a great concert.
As Bryan played through his songs, after almost every song, he would say, “Thank you, Michigan, I do not deserve this”, showing his gratitude and his gratefulness for everyone in attendance. The concert continued for over 4 hours, including openings from artists like John Mayer. John Mayer is a legendary guitar player who had never played at such a big event until this. Zach Bryan went through a few songs before bringing Mayer back out to perform “Better Days” and “Friend of the Devil”.
As the concert came to a close, Zach Bryan let the crowd know that he had one more song left. He played “Quittin’ Time” to wrap up the concert. He finished the song, thanked everyone for coming, and exited the stage. However, the crowd didn’t believe that the concert had ended. The lights remained off in the stadium, there was no sign of anyone leaving, and the stage was not being taken down. Bryan left the crowd waiting for over 10 minutes before he finally came out for the encore. His encore song was the legendary “Revival”. He played the song for over 10 minutes, introducing each and every one of his band members. Letting everyone have a solo moment where they played their instrument to the best of their ability. The song was a huge success at Bryan’s biggest concert ever and the biggest ticketed event in the United States. Creating memories for everyone in attendance, making everyone there a part of a world record.
As someone who was in attendance for the concert, it is safe to say that everyone there enjoyed their time and will savor that memory for as long as they can remember. Zach Bryan was able to put on a performance that will go down in history as one of the best ever. And for that performance to be put on in the biggest stadium in America makes it that much better. Zach Bryan created a night that 112,408 people will remember and cherish for the rest of their lives.
