Looking ahead to the Michigan basketball season this November, the team this year might be able to make a run this year. With new coach Dusty May coming in from FAU and a whole bunch of new players this season.
I will be reviewing all the new additions with the upcoming team this season.
It came as no surprise that Michigan needed a new head coach after Juwan Howard led the Wolverines to an 8-24 record last season. Howard was fired in March, and UofM brought in Dusty May. 2 seasons ago, May took the Florida Atlantic Owls to the Final 4, where they lost to San Diego State on a buzzer-beater. He also took them to the tournament last year and lost in the first round to Northwestern.
Michigan got many transfers as well, including Daniel Wolf, Vladislav Goldin, Roddy Gayle Jr, and Tre Donaldson. The best players out of this group are Wolf, Goldin, and Donaldson. Wolf and Goldin will be very special because they are 2, 7-footers that will hopefully dominate under the rim. Goldin is coming in from FAU, and Daniel Wolf is coming from Yale. Hopefully, there will be a situation where both of them are on the court at the same time. Tre Donaldson is coming in from Auburn. I also like this guy because his ability to shoot outside the arc is great, and he will be a great addition to the team.
The recruits Michigan got were also solid, consisting of 3-star Durall Brooks, 4-star Justin Pippen, and 3-star Lorenzo Carson. This class is solid, with mostly guards and shooters. They are just missing out on some bigger guys.
The returning players are actually the best part of this year’s team, with Nimari Burnett, Will Tschetter, Jace Howard, and Ian Burns. Only 2 of these guys will be starters, but they are a great part of the team. Especially Nimari Burnett, who got really hot towards the end of the season last year.
With all of these players coming to the program, there are 2 big names that the Wolverines are missing. Dug McDaniel left for K-State, and Tarris Reed left for Uconn.
My prediction for this season is that the Wolverines make the tournament this year and hopefully make a run.
