Last Tuesday, the Lady Rangers Swim and Dive team headed out near the lakeshore to face off against powerhouse conference rival Jenison. FHC put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short to the Wildcats 119-65.
The Rangers had a tough time from the very beginning of the meet, as both Jenison’s A and B relays placed 1-2, but the A relay team from the Rangers took 3rd and earned 2 points.
In the next event, the 200-yard freestyle, FHC had two swimmers place in the top 6. Junior Allison Meny did what she does best (swim the 200) and placed 2nd with a 2:04.97. Freshman Natalie Holt took 4th with a 2:11.77, and combined, both Rangers earned 6 points.
The Lady Rangers struggled in the next two events, the 200-yard IM and the 50-yard freestyle, but still managed to earn some points.
Freshman phenom Ciana Fors took 4th with a 2:34.15, Sophomore Simiana Tyrell placed 6th with a 2:45.73, and Freshman Mallory Meny placed 7th in a 2:52.60. While the Rangers only earned 3 points to Jenison’s 13 they were still able to keep themselves in the meet.
In the 50, the Rangers placed 5th and 6th after Junior Mady Scarlato and Freshman Lola Lipke went 28.22 and 28.44. These two swims once again earned the Rangers 3 points compared to Jenison’s 13.
At the diving break, FHC excelled with their two phenomenal sophomore divers, Mia Shaffer and Sydney Bresnahan, placing 2nd and 3rd with scores of 209.85 and 189.05.
The Rangers seemed to regain their ground in the 100 fly and in the 100 freestyle. For each event, FHC placed 3 people in the top 6 to earn some points.
In the 100 fly, Senior Kayla Quach took 2nd with a 1:04.83, Sophomore Ellie Palmer took 3rd with a 1:05.45, and Sophomore Amelia Donald placed 6th with a 1:16.27.
Following up in the 100 free, Meny took 2nd with a 57.98, Fors took 4th with a 1:00.25, and Junior Maggie Holt placed 5th with a 1:00.49.
The meet came to a close in the 500, 100 back/breast, and the 400 free relay. While the Rangers weren’t able to come back and overwhelm Jenison, they were able to swim well and focus more on their times.
The Rangers look to continue their season against conference opponent Zeeland.
