FHC varsity football bounces back against South Christian

Air attack was the theme Friday night, as the varsity boys dominated all facets of the game against South Christan winning 34-13.

South Chirstian received the opening kickoff and marched down the field, star QB Carson Vis punched in the one-yard touchdown on ‘brotherly shove’. However, on the ensuing extra point senior, Seder Middaugh blocked the kick.

As FHC started their first drive it was clear that both sides would only utilize the ground game occasionally at best. As surprising as this was it didn’t matter, FHC rolled. QB, Nick Williams had himself a game passing for over 300 yards and 5 touchdowns. On their first drive, the Rangers marched down the gridiron with ease that had not been shown in previous games this season. Williams found Brendan Cargill for the 15-yard touchdown.

On the following drive for Christan the Ranger defense proved why they boast one of the top defenses in Michigan. Carson Vis rolled out of the pocket and threw a perfect ball…to the wrong team. Junior, Adam Piotrowski picked off Vis and returned the ball inside the South Christian 30.

Ranger head coach, Dave Fortino pulled out all the stops with a double reverse throwback, Williams found Ty Ryan for the easy score. FHC felt it early as they finished the 1st quarter with a 13-6 lead.

The Rangers rolled from there, Williams threw for five touchdowns, and Cargill had two touchdown receptions. At half the Rangers lead 20-6.

The second half started much the same for FHC, Nick Williams led a long scoring drive that was eventually capped off with a 7-yard touchdown pass on third down to Max Holser. South Christan on offense was nothing special the defense was stifling for the Rangers as South Christan only scored twice. Christan in previous games had been an offensive superpower, this game showed no such thing. Early in the 4th quarter, Christan punched in their second score of the day, scoring 26-13. The Rangers bounced right back on the ensuing drive. Nick Williams hit Max Holser from 46 yards out for his 5th touchdown pass. This was the dagger. The Rangers went up 34-13.

Headed into the game South Christan was the number one ranked team in division four. The Rangers play in division three however, this game was anticipated to be one of the best of the week in Michigan. It proved to be a blowout. Christian struggled to get any offense going as their offense idled every possession. The Rangers, on the other side, showed how good their offense and defense can be when they fire on all cylinders.

The Rangers will head on the road again this week as they visit the number 22 ranked team in the state, Zeeland West, in a rematch of the State semifinal game last year. Game time is 7 pm.
