Michigan football has been a force to be reckoned with in the first seven weeks of the college football season.
Ever since the first week of the season, the Associated Press has ranked Michigan as the number-two team in the country, only behind Georgia, who has proven, at times, to be a shaky team.
The Wolverines have evolved before our eyes these past few years, and it’s been incredible to watch as they have gone 7-0; however, the next test is upon them. It’s Michigan vs. Michigan State week.
The time has come for the Wolverine’s revenge. Last year, Michigan beat Michigan State at the Big House, and it wasn’t close; Michigan won 29-7. However, the story wasn’t that Michigan dismantled MSU. It was the skirmish in the tunnel that led to two Michigan State players being suspended from the program. This incident increases the intense nature of this rivalry, and you best believe Michigan has not forgotten about it.
In an article by Marlee Wierda, from WOODTV8, Wierda claims that Michigan has put the infamous “tunnel incident” behind them. However, this incident led to criminal charges being filed on behalf of Gemon Green of Michigan. Wierda also expresses that Jim Harbaugh has not been very vocal about the situation and wants to “put the past behind him.”
White lie.
Undoubtedly, Michigan has not forgotten about what happened last year in the tunnel. After all, Gemon Green, former starting safety for the Wolverines, did not make an appearance for the rest of the season after this incident. Michigan players will make sure the media knows that there is no bad blood between the two, but when those players walk out of the tunnel at MSU on Saturday, you best believe that Michigan will be ready to hand an ass-whooping to the Spartans.
For the sake of this rivalry, I hope nothing breaks out in the form of a fight. However, the best revenge would be dropping 50 on that abysmal program in East Lansing. Strong words, you might say. Yes, I know.
My childhood has been built on the die-hard fandom that my family had instilled in me since I was very young. I have gone through the ecstatic moments of Michigan football and basketball, and I have shed tears in the heartbreaking losses. I witnessed Michigan football beat the Ohio State Buckeyes for the first time in almost 20 years in 2021, and I witnessed the infamous “Oooohhh and he has trouble with the snap” call by Sean McDonough in 2015.
I hate MSU’s guts, and I will to the day I die. The sweetest victory of all is when Michigan can dismantle its in-state rivals, and it will always be the cause of elation or pure depression.
