Tottenham’s blazing start:
For the first time in a very, very long time, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. sit atop the Premier League table. Given the club traded away star striker and former Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane, some would think that the cursed club would fall even further in the ranks. Surprisingly, the club has gone undefeated in the opening eight matches of the season. This looks to be an amazing start of the season for the squad to get themselves within championship placement.
Tottenham haven’t been able to lift the Premier League trophy since the 1960-1961 season, giving them the reputation of a cursed club. They have always been blessed with some of the world’s greatest talent but never seem to be able to put the pieces together when the occasion arises. This is looking promisingly wrong with their start this season.
Leading the way is winger Son Heung-min, who has six goals already through the eight games played by Hotspur. Also, James Maddison leads the league in assists, which creates a deadly combo when paired with the attacking ability of Heung-min. Tottenham has been making great progress and heading in the right direction since 1960.
Haaland leads the Golden Boot race:
Ever since Erling Haaland’s debut for Manchester City, he has been an absolute beast on the field. Even though the season is only eight games in, Haaland has pushed himself two goals ahead of second place with a total of eight goals. Haaland is only gaining more experience as he plays at the highest level for his second year, and with valuable experience, he is bound to only improve his goal-scoring ability.
I believe Haaland will only piggyback off his Golden Boot performance last year, having the same team and coaching mastermind as his breakout performance in the previous season.
Is Manchester City slowing down?:
Usually, when we look at Manchester City in the context of the previous couple of years, we see a club that is virtually unbeatable with top-tier talent on the field and even the bench, paired together with a masterclass twist of Pep Guardiola. However, the team currently sits out of the top two on the table, with back-to-back losses for their last pair of games.
While this may seem concerning to enthusiasts, I believe there is nothing really to worry about. Every great team has their speed bumps that come once in a while. But if the City continues to trend in the direction that they have been as of recently, that raises a couple of concerns. We can compare Manchester City to Alabama football if they continue to lose: a team with great resources and great coaching that falls to lower teams that nobody would think of beating.
