After excitement from all players around the league, this week also brings a lot of questions, just like every week involving fantasy football. But also, we are gonna look at a historic game for a wide receiver who broke their team’s single-game reception record and posted 52 points!
Week Five Busts
Number five: Lamar Jackson
This came as a shock, as Lamar Jackson has been playing like the top QB in the league for the past weeks. This left fantasy owners happy, but after this week, he costs managers games as they banked on him to get his 20 points, but he ended up dropping below 10! Lamar finished the day with 9.94 points; he went 22 for 38 on completions for 236 yards, which is very solid, but he had zero touchdowns, a crucial red zone interception, and a fumble on the last drive of the game. Jackson completely folded under pressure yesterday against the Steelers. Although this was a terrible week, I still do think Lamar is a top-five fantasy QB, but he needs to clean up his red zone percentages as he missed a lot of open-throughs and had that interception. If he cleans up, he will post 20-plus points every week. So done fear Lamar is still Lamar and will be out, but this week was definitely unordinary.
Number four: Chris Olave
This is starting to become a recurring theme for Olave. This is not his first time on this list, and I bet it won’t be his last. Despite blowing out the Patriots, he was only targeted five times and only hauled in two of those for a total of twelve yards and one touchdown. What amazes me is a top wide receiver on that team is only open or at least looked at five times; what I am seeing is an offense that is spreading the ball around more. Michale Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and Tysome Hill have all been used more in the offense the past two weeks, which is taking away from Olave. I still believe he is a number one target, but I can also tell you that you will see more inconsistent stats from him as his production will be week to week. Since his production is so much more spread out, I would not panic if you have Olave but definitely be on the lookout if you see this again. I would look to trade him if he ends up on this list next week.
Number three: Derrick Henry
Derrick Henry has finally fallen off. It’s sad to say, but it’s true. It just hasn’t been the same explosive Henry we are used to, and if you have him, I would be worried. On Sunday, he was given the ball 13 times, which is solid, but he was only able to turn that into 43 yards for zero touchdowns, which was only a total of 9.2 fantasy points, which is not good. He hasn’t been able to hit the hole as hard as he used to and doesn’t seem as shifty. He’s just a big power back at this point, and he isn’t even utilized all the time in the red zone, which is super concerning. If you are an owner of Henry, I would be looking to trade for anything. He just isn’t a valuable RB1 or RB2 anymore, and maybe even a week-to-week flex. This is why I would look to move him ASAP. The freight train Derrick Henry is gone, and his fantasy stock is slowly plummeting.
Number Two: Ceedee Lamb
This didn’t really come as a surprise because they were playing the 49ers, who are the best team in football, but I still expected Ceedee to show more. He had five targets for four receptions for only 49 yards. It wasn’t an awful yards per catch for a total of 8.9 points. But if you look closer, it wasn’t all Lamb’s fault Prescott could not get the ball out clean, resulting in some of the terrible play from Lamb. He wasn’t being given the ball as much as he should. But we also saw him not getting as open again. I don’t think he played his best game either. I think it was a mix of bad play from Prescott and not a good game from Lamb in general. So, if you have Lamb, I would be a little concerned about the fact that when Prescott plays badly, the receivers play badly, but at the same time, I have enough confidence that Lamb will continue to shine even if Prescott plays badly. This should just be a fluke week, and next week, we should be seeing the usual Lmab back in action.
Number One: Garett Wilson
This honestly comes as no surprise ever since the injury of Rodgers. Wilson has fallen off, and it’s not his fault he’s open, but Zach Wilson is so inconsistent and not reliable. Garrett Wilson will just continue to be a week-to-week guy. This week, he was targeted seven times, and he caught three of them for 54 yards again, not a terrible yards after the catch; his average was 18 yards, and he ended with 8.4 fantasy points. It’s not Garrett’s fault, but I would temper your expectations for the rest of the season when playing Garrett Wilson; he will continue to be week-to-week and, in my mind, a solid flex at best. So yes, as much as I like him, he just doesn’t really fit this scheme right now because of the inconsistent QB play.
Best Performer: Jamar Chase
Jamar is showing why he is the best wide receiver in the league. This week, he was targeted 19 times and caught 15 of them for 192 yards and three touchdowns for an average yard per reception was 12.8, which is absolutely insane, and that came out to be 52.2 fantasy points, which is absolutely wild. Jamar Chase will continue to do this for multiple reasons. Once he was shown he was the leading red zone target for Burrow, also the number of targets he’s getting, he’s bound to break one off for a long gain every game. If you have Jamar, he needs to be valued as a top-three player right now in fantasy, and you should only trade him if the return is absolutely unbelievable and you can’t pass it up. I do believe that he will pass Jefferson this year and be the best receiver. Jamar just proved what he can do and how he can turn any play into a monster play. He is a must-have, and if you have him, hold onto him and start him every week.
Player to watch: Adam Thielen
Adam Thielen has been such a trustworthy target, and that won’t change. He is clearly Bryce Youngs’ number one, and this week he showed it again. He had 13 targets for 11 receptions for 107 yards and one touchdown. It’s just such a consistent stat line: he barely drops anything and doesn’t let anything slide through his hands, and he always turns and breaks tackles. He plays like a Cooper Kupp, almost always consistent, sometimes flashy, and always makes a positive gain out of the play. I would snag Thielen right now if he’s on waivers, and if you have him, start him immediately and sell him high if you were ever thinking about it.
The conclusion of week five finally had big-time players showing up but also even more players falling into the bust category. But next week, we will be back after week six to see if anyone new joins the list or if it’s the same people again.
