Already reaching another end of the week for fantasy football, we will take another deep dive into the busts and disappointments, and the athletes that keep performing. Additionally, someone to keep your eye on who has been performing consistently well through the first two weeks.
Top five week two busts
Number five
Jamar Chase is one of the biggest disappointments of this year so far, and it’s not even close. He had another week below 10 fantasy points; this week he dropped 8.1. Jamar had eight targets for five catches, which isn’t bad, but he was only able to turn that into 31 yards which is the most disappointing part. A wide receiver being that talented and shifty was really only able to create 31 yards on five catches, which is an average of 6.2 yards. But this shows how little he is targeted, especially in the red zone. He is barely looked at now, which is hurting his fantasy stats and is making owners of him like myself very disappointed. He’s on the best jump ball and off-the-line wide receivers use him!
Number four
Number four is another player that people were excited about as a first-round player or early second-round player: Josh Jacobs. He’s supposed to be the focal point of the offense but has just had two back-to-back stinker weeks. He is leaving fantasy owners very upset and mad right now after his performances. Jacobs had nine carries for negative two yards and then he had five receptions for 51 yards for a total of 9.9 fantasy points. Now yes, the Bills defense is amazing, and yes I do think that had something to do with it. But the -2 yards is hard because it shows the O-line in Vegas is of no help, but the positive is that he is very involved in the passing game. So, if they continue to utilize him there and slowly pick up the run game I could totally see him producing and helping being a running back in fantasy leagues. But he definitely needs to start doing it sooner rather than later, and he can’t keep waiting because fantasy owners will just start to distrust Jacobs as weeks progress.
Number three
Another shocker coming out of this week was another running back, Travis Etienne Jr. had an absolute stinker of a week dropping 6.2 fantasy points in week two, while in week one he dropped 21.4. Etiennes had twelve carries for 40 yards and an average of 3.3 yards per career this week. It was just a huge letdown for Etienne owners this week as a lot of them banked on him being a number-one running back on teams. But he was severely disappointing on the ground. It poses a question if he can really be a consistent running back in fantasy this year. But time will only tell because it is only the end of week two and there are plenty of more games to come for Etienne to show why he is a very reliable RB, but in terms of this week, he was a major letdown.
Number two
Needless to say, this player just continues to disappoint and let us down. Last year, he did the same and this year is no different. Kyle Pitts is the most overhyped fantasy football tight end and it’s getting to the point where he cannot be trusted. He was not on the top five bust list last week but he was very close. This week he needed to be on it without a doubt. Kyle Pitts had five targets for two receptions and only 15 yards, it was awful; he only posted 3.5 fantasy points which is terrible. If you have Kyle Pitts in your lineup, either get used to anywhere from 3 to 12-point games because he’s super inconsistent and unreliable. He is rarely treated and used more as a blocking back which hurts his fantasy stock. If he is on your team, pick up a viable backup that can come in and start if Kyle Pitts continues to play badly, or just trade or bench him. But Kyle Pitts can not be trusted anymore. Through the first two weeks he just continues to let down fantasy owners, so avoid him at any costs, and do not trade for him whatsoever. He is a huge bust, and expect him to show up on this list again very soon.
Number one
At number one is more of a socker more so because of his big game in week one and the role his team said he was gonna have. Breece Hall put up a whopping .9 fantasy points, not even a single full point. He only had four carries for nine yards, an absolutely terrible game, and it confused many fantasy owners as to why his carries went down by that big of a margin from week one, where he had 10 carries. They dropped by half, although the Dallas defense is sensational…but fantasy owners were expecting a little bit more out of the running back from New York. I see him definitely splitting with Dalvin Cook, so yes it already drops him a little bit but if four to five carries is the max he is going get his stock is gonna continue to tank. Again, with most of these players, it is only week two and a lot can change, so none of these players are written off as permanent busts by any means. But definitely, the biggest bust of week two was Breece Hall without a doubt.
Week Two top performer
It is an absolute shock to say that the highest point scorer was an absolute nobody before the season started and is now lighting it up. Puka Nacua dropped 30.1 fantasy points and went off in back-to-back weeks. He had 20 targets for 15 catches and 147 years. These stats are absolutely wild for a wide receiver that nobody even had a clue about until the start of this season. Now he is a must pick up in every league, as he will continue to ball out and put up unreal stats till Cooper Kupp comes back. Until then he is a must-start on your fantasy team. And with Puka’s insane amount of targets and receptions, he has passed the all-time for most catches by a rookie wide receiver throughout their first two games. If this doesn’t give you confidence to start, I don’t know what will. I know I will definitely start him. This kid is legit.
Top player to watch
This player was no secret he would be amazing, but he definitely deserves the spotlight. Bijan Robinson has impressed fantasy right from the get-go, as he put up 21.2 fantasy points in week two. He had 19 carries for 124 yards which is absolutely wild. A rookie gets 19 carries in the second start and turning that into 124 yards is wild. He is showing why he will be dominating the running back position for years to come. Now I know that it is only week two, and that accusation may be a little much, but if he keeps getting these many chances and can get 100 yards a game while pushing for a few touchdowns, he will continue to light up leagues and win you them as well. If you have Bijan, hang onto him because his stock will only go up and he is a must-start RB1.
