Varsity girls tennis shines during the weekend

As we enter the home stretch of the school the one thing on most students’ minds is the end of school, as for the girls tennis team the one thing on their minds is the road to states.

On Friday the girls faced off against West Ottawa at home for their first home match of the year. These girls lost in a tough one but played very well and just barely came away with a tough loss. Singles one competitor Lily Ohlman won her match 6-3, and 6-2. Despite the strong start in singles the next three singles athletes Quinn Breslin(2), Hailey Miller(3), and Chloe Cox(4) all lost their respective matches. Doubles told much the same story with doubles one losing while doubles two, and three both won.

On Saturday however, the girls showed out against Mason and Birmingham-Groves. All singles flights won easily against Mason with the average score being around 6-0, 6-1.

“We played great,” stated Lily Ohlman. “This was a really good precursor to our next matches at the Midland Dow Classic.” As for doubles, the scores were much the same, winning all flights.

The next Match was against Birmingham-Groves, the ladies won 6-2 winning their second straight match of the day. The real highlight of the singles fights was an intense and thrilling match for Quinn Breslin. She won a close one 7-5, 3-6, and 10-12. The experience was great for her as she proved her potential as a top singles athlete. Hailey Miller, unfortunately, lost a tough flight for singles three however she played very tough and showed, again, huge potential. All doubles flights won for the Rangers rounding up a very good day for the ladies.

The tennis team’s next matches will be at the annual Midland Quad on Wednesday, April 19. The opponents will include rival Seaholm, Grosse Pointe North, and Midland Dow. This is a huge competition for the girls because it will give them the experience that will be needed for a tough conference this year.
