Track and field competition season has officially begun with the girls competing on Tuesday, March 28, at the Aquinas Indoor Meet. Not only did this meet introduce us to the team this year, but gave us a sneak peek into some of the amazing talents as well.
Starting off, there were many great individual performances from the girls. One of those being Peyton Ludwig, who competed in the 800 meter and finished off with a time of 2:30.37 while placing third overall. Another great individual performance came from Mia Bateson in the 1600 meter with a time of 6:05.33 and finishing eighth overall.
Not only did these girls have some great individual performances, but they also had some amazing relay performances as well. For instance, all of the three relays that the girls performed in, they were always in the top three. The first relay was the 4×200 meter with Lucy Yoder, Zenash Cumings, Gwen Lamport, and Emma Goring, and finished second overall with a time of 1:48.72. Their second relay was the 4×800 meter with Lilah Yoder, Peyton Ludwing, Anna Sybenga, and Mis Stibitz, and finished third overall with a time of 10:23.62. And last but certainly not least, the 400-200-200-400 meter relay with Gwen Lamport, Zenash Cumings, Lucy Yoder, and Emma Goring ended up finishing first overall with a time of 2:01.39.
With all of this outstanding work, the girls team ended up finishing sixth overall out of 17 teams. Even though the girls will have a break before going into their next competition, which will be away at Northview on Tuesday, April 11, at 4:15 pm, they are still going to take this motivation and compete to the best of their ability.
