Lady Rangers varsity tennis concludes its first competition of the year at the Rockford Tri
The Lady Ranger tennis team started the season off on Tuesday, March 28 at the Rockford Tri. The team faced two extremely tough opponents in Rockford and Mattawan, having reached the state tournament two straight times in the recent past.
The girls won against Mattawan and tied against Rockford, top singles athletes such as Lily Ohlman, Quinn Breslin, and Hailey Miller all won their matches on Tuesday against Mattawan. Lily won 6-2, 6-1. Quinn won 1-6, 6-3, and 11-9. Hailey won 6-1, 6-0. Chloe Cox also competed in singles and won 6-3, 6-4.
Doubles was much the same with Brooke Kushak and Abby Gleason winning 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Maggie Moog and freshman Clare Knoester also won their doubles 6-4, and 6-3. All in all, the ladies defeated Mattawan 6-3 in their first competition of the year.
The second competition at the Rockford Tri was against the hosts, Rockford. Rockford also proved a lot tougher competition than Mattawan. Lily Ohlman, star singles one athlete, won easily 6-0, 6-0. Quinn Breslin and Hailey Miller also won their respective matches with almost the same amount of ease. However, Rockford bounced back with a few doubles and singles wins against notable competitors Brooke Kushak and Abby Gleason. The competition from Rockford may have surprised the girls a little after a big first win, the ladies did not fail to bounce back however, they ended up tying in the end.
The ladies have some work to do, not in a negative way though. The Rockford Tri did prove a huge success for the Rangers, it especially helped them prepare for the competition that will present itself this season. The next match for the ladies will be after spring break concludes on April 13, at 4:15. The next match will be part of a tough stretch including quick turnarounds on the April 15 and 17.
