FHC girls tennis look to continue their recent success this season

As spring break approaches, the girls varsity tennis team has one thing on its mind and it’s not the warmer weather, it’s the state tournament.

With the seasoned talent leaving last year in Libby Moog, the team has a young squad returning to the court. Veteran coach, Dan Bolhouse, returns to FHC with an experience that is unsurpassed in his field. This year though, the Lady Rangers plan on making a long and successful run.

Talent on this year’s team includes junior Lily Ohlman, Quinn Breslin, Hailey Miller, Grace Chen, and Ella Sanford. There are many more great players on this team like senior teammates Brooke Kushak and Megan Fox.

Great athletes like Lily Ohlman and Quinn Breslin look to lead the team forward this year as the number one and two singles competitors. Top doubles teammates Brooke Kushak and Megan Fox look to repeat their all-state season this year as seniors and talented underclassmen look to continue the push toward states.

“Our team goals for this season are definitely to make states again,” says Lily. “We did qualify last year, however, this year’s regional competition will be difficult regarding qualifying for states because of our shift up in divisions. Overall, we are just looking for a solid year full of solid wins against our rivals EGR, Northern, and Seaholm.”

“As for my goals this year,” explains Lily. “My biggest goal for this season would be to win states! I am hoping to be the first one in FHC history to be a female singles state champion.”

This year will be full of tough competition for the ladies, but make sure to come out and support them throughout their push for a state championship. The ladies will play their first match on Tuesday, March 28, at Rockford high school.
