The FHC rugby team looks to have a remarkable season
With spring sports starting and games right around the corner for the boys rugby team and with a short schedule of only a few games this year, the boys look to show all their hard work and dedication to the team and sport in every game and go undefeated on the season.
The FHC rugby is bringing in a wide variety of kids with multiple from each grade. But despite having some younger kids, they still look to be unstoppable. The team has been putting in work for months and learning from last year.
“This is looking to be a better year for our team. We have more weapons and a lot more depth on the lineup. We hope to get some wins and make it a good season,” sophomore Landon Pokora said.
The rugby team even has a wide variety of ages playing this year, which means getting back a lot of depth with veterans and multiple upperclassmen that will help lead them to the goal of a state championship. Coach Brad Anderson has faith in the leaders and thinks they will help lead the team to a bright year.
“Leading the pack this year will be Luke Piotrowski, Andrew Weiskopf, Evan Lubben, and Topher Beckering,” Coach Anderson said.
The Ranger team gets the season rolling on Friday, April 14, against Grandville. A team that will truly test its capabilities as a team right out of the gates. But the boys are up for the challenge as they know if they want to go undefeated they have to get past the big force of the Bulldogs.
Coach Anderson said, “Grandville is a tough squad and will be a good test match for us out of the gate.”
Even though last year did not go as planned for the Rugby team finishing at a 1-5 record. They look to flip the script and write a new story. They look to have a way better record heading into this year and also make a deep run in playoffs and win the ultimate prize a state championship. The boys know they have what it takes but they also know it won’t be easy. They will have to persevere and really dig deep this year to achieve their goals.
Senior Evan Lubben says, “My personal goal is for me this is to make sure everyone on the team has fun and time and experience. And I think as a team we can hopefully come out on top every single game.”
Make sure to make it out to their season opener at home against Grandville on April 14, the time is TBA.
