Girls JV tennis gears up for another fruitful season

This spring, in conjunction with girls varsity tennis, girls JV tennis is looking for another excellent season for the 2023 months. In recent years, they have put on impressive showings consistently, making for them to be renowned as a formidable force-that trend is only expected to continue. With both a bundle of returning players as well as new JV players, this season’s team is bound for success.

Last year, but most especially seen in the 2021 season, wins over many local foes were common, such as Lowell, Grand Rapids Christian, and Northview. In the spring of 2021, the girls finished the season with a 7-3 record, helped by great success on all flights of doubles-wrapping up the season with five straight matches won. There is no doubt the girls will strive to continue that streak in the coming months.

Returning junior Ayla Ahmetovic commented, “The thing that I’m most excited for would for sure be the team chemistry and being with everyone again.”

For the majority of the team, this is an understatement, as FHC tennis is known to be close-knit and team-forward; especially for girls JV tennis, as many find a common ground in playing for the fun of the sport. The leadership brought by a few returning juniors such as Bella Grounin, Zoey Segebarth, and Ayla Ahmetovic, and the new blood incorporated with the joining of many freshmen and sophomores will create a team atmosphere destined for success.

But unfortunately, one hindrance that remains in the girls’ way is Forest Hills Northern; the Huskies’ impressive tennis lineup combats both JV and varsity with impressive efforts. In past seasons, they have fallen to this local foe, but growing talent and connectedness on the team will help the girls best the Huskies, as well as other formidable teams around the region. Other than Forest Hills Northern, based upon their track record, it is clearly not much else stands in the Rangers’ way of having another vastly successful season.

For a couple of weeks now, the girls have been practicing to better their skills and best effectively prepare for their season-these practices every day after school are guaranteed to come to fruition in their first matches following spring break. With the positivity and momentum already had from previous years, granted by much success, the girls are heading into the season predicted to be one of the strongest competitors in the region.

The girls’ first match takes place on April 13, 2023, at West Ottawa at 4 P.M. There, they look to garner a winning start to their match-filled season and are hoping to create positive takeaways from their head-to-head with the Panthers.
