Varsity water polo falls to Jension

After a tough loss against Hudsonville on Tuesday, the girls came back on Thursday with hopes of redeeming themselves against Jension. Unfortunately, the girls were unable to beat the Wildcats as they lost 12-6.

The reason that the girls lost is that they made silly mistakes consistently throughout the game. Those errors accumulated resulting in Jenison being able to win. As everything started to pile up, it made the girls tired and the aggressive mindset they once had began to fade away. It started to fade for two reasons: one, Jenison got in FHC’s head and two, the Wildcats were playing more aggressively than the Rangers were. In the first half, the girls were aggressive but they exhausted themselves which allowed Jenison to get into the girls’ heads and become more aggressive. Technically wise, FHC is a better team; however, Jenison is more strategic and mentally stronger.

During the game, the girls scored six points. Those six points were scored by Sydney VanLente, Kesley Pattinson, Ally Becker, and Nora Havemeier. They fought hard and gave it their all offensively. The team noticed and was proud of these three girls. Even though their efforts weren’t enough to put points on the board, it was clear that they were determined to succeed.

This weekend, the girls will be participating in a Jension Invitational hosted by Jenison. They are playing Jenison again so the team is confident that they will redeem themselves and win. Along with winning against Jenison, they are hoping to win multiple games during the tournament. Be sure to make it out to support the girls on Saturday, March 25, with the time being TBD.

The girls are ready for what is to come this weekend during this tournament. One of the girls on the team, junior Olivia Oorbeck, stated, “We know what to do and we know how Jenison plays. We will be ready for this weekend because we know how to prepare.”
