Hockey downs East 4-1 ending 3 game skid

After dropping two hard-fought blowouts to Byron Center and Hartland, FHC has come back to life. The Rangers faced off in what would be crucial in conference showdown versus the East Grand Rapids Pioneers. The Rangers are coming into the game at 1-5 while EGR comes off a 2-1 loss to Flint Powers which drops their record to 3-2.

The 1st period would see the Pioneers net the first goal of the game, not the Rangers. That one goal would be the only shot to find the back of the net for the Pioneers as the Rangers would start a scoring run that would last till the end of the game. After EGR’s quick goal, sophomore Sammy Mielock received the puck off a beauty of a pass leading to an open shot for a Ranger goal tying the game at 1s.

The second period would watch the Rangers expand their lead early after a Lucas Jefferys goal that brought the game to 2-1 Rangers. Shortly after Jefferys found net, Sammy would put his second one in for the night bringing the score to 3-1 Rangers. The brotherly tandem of sophomore Anthony Ott and senior Xavier helped the Rangers move the puck very efficiently. The chemistry between the two helped to keep the puck on the offensive end for the Rangers, a spot that the team did not rank high in as they have had to spend a lot of time on the defensive end as of lately.

The third period would see Sammy find his third goal of the game which gives him his second hat trick on the season. The final score in this one would be 4-1 Rangers as they are now 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Rangers are still 5th in the Baum Divison of the OK Conference. The Ranger’s upcoming week sees them slated with three more games: at Grand Rapids Christan Tuesday, at EGR Wednesday, and at Forest Hills Eastern/Northern Saturday.
