Exterminating the Greenville Yellow Jackets

After an expected win against FHN last week, this week two difficult opponents intimated the boys. Most of the varsity boys bowling team weren’t expecting to win; however, they looked past this, came out strong and confident, and successfully won their match.

Last night, the varsity boys bowling team played Greenville. They won after a hard-fought battle to get pins down.

The boys bowled a 748 in the first individual match. A player who stood out in this match was senior Peyton Price. Although Greenville had a great 5th bowler, this wasn’t an issue for him. He started off his game very strong with four strikes.

“After I bowled four strikes in a row, it alleviated a lot of pressure on the team knowing we had a huge pin advantage early on in the game. It gave the team a lot of extra confidence and motivation.” He beat his opponent and singlehandedly gained a point for his team.

They then proceeded to bowl a 699 in the second match. During this match, no one bowled their best game. Despite this fact, they still won. Although none of the boys excelled in their matches, junior Wes Baldwin made some outstanding plays. He threw some nasty spares and picked up some difficult splits that no one would’ve expected him to pick up.

During the whole game, there was an enormous shift in energy all thanks to freshman Hudson [Huddy] Bigford. Out of the corner of the varsity team’s eyes, Huddy, captain of the JV bowling team, got a strike, making the varsity team go crazy. His strike made a huge impact on the morale and energy of the varsity team. Thanks to Huddy, the boys had smiles painted across their faces and were highly energetic and positive.

The boys pulled through with an unexpected win. Luke Stiles commented, “If I am going to be honest, we got really lucky because Greenville didn’t bowl well. A win is a win so I am happy about that; however, I am assured that it wasn’t the greatest win of the season.”

Coach Tarabek commented on the boys’ performance by saying, “I think the guys did pretty well. It showed some glaring things we need to work on and we will take advantage of practice time to work on that. I am hoary that we have already matched last year’s total.” He then proceeded to mention a few things about Wednesday’s game by saying, “We will have a bigger challenge against Byron Center and the guys are going to be pretty well tested. They need to be ready to make spares and fill frames. If we don’t do that, we won’t win.”

Their next match is on Wednesday at Spectrum Lanes versus Byron Center at 3:30. With a crowd, it is almost guaranteed that this team will bowl better. As they have skill and determination, they lack the positivity and energy that comes from the fans. Overall, this win adds another victory to the boys’ record leaving them 2-0 this season.
