Chris Battiste and Cully Herbert lead Rangers to 2-0-1 victory at their quad this past weekend
Last Saturday, the Rangers had a quad tournament against Rockford, Midland Dow, and Traverse City St. Francis. The doubles teams played at Forest Hills Northern, while the singles teams played at home. The Rangers’ match was rained out the last time they were supposed to play TCSF, so on Saturday the team finally competed against them and won 7-1. They also beat Rockford with a narrow 5-3 win and they went 4-4 against rival Midland Dow. The boys have already beat Midland Dow twice this season, although the scores came closer on Saturday they still came out with a tie.
The one doubles team consisting of senior Chris Battiste and junior Cully Herbert went undefeated for the day. Against Rockford, they took the first set 6-4, lost the second set 6-2, but came back and won the third set tie break 10-8. Later, during their match against Traverse City St. Francis, the team went into three sets yet again. They lost the first set with a narrow score of 7-5, then won the second with an easy 6-2. During the third set, the boys battled in the tie break and won 12-10.
One singles player sophomore Sammy Yin also had an amazing day. Not only did he go undefeated against all three teams, but Sammy only lost one game during the entire tournament.
The team has their next conference match against cross town rival Forest Hills Northern on September 28th at 4:15 away in Huskie territory.
