Boys varsity tennis goes 2-0 for their tri in Midland

On September 16, the Rangers competed in a tri tournament all the way in Midland, Michigan. They competed against Midland Dow and University of Detroit Jesuit. They handily beat both teams going 6-2 against Dow and 7-1 against UDJ.

The Rangers had already played—and beat—Midland Dow this season, so they knew what to expect going into their matches. Nonetheless, the team gave it their best and only let the Chargers win two of the eight matches. Dominating the court against Dow was one singles player sophomore Sammy Yin. Sammy only let his opponent win two games against him, providing a final match score of 6-0, 6-2.

Against University of Detroit Jesuit, the boys had great matches, only giving up one point to their opponent. One doubles team senior Chris Battiste and junior Cully Herbert dominated the court once again. The duo went 6-1, 6-1 getting an easy point for the team. Also the three doubles team consisting of senior Ben Koning and junior Nick Yasenchak won their match. They went into three sets, but fought hard and came out on top.

The Rangers’ next match is a quad in West Ottawa on Saturday, September 19th. They will compete against Mona Shores, Mattawan, and West Ottawa.
