JV and Freshman football caps off their season with a win against Forest Hills Northern

After having week eight off, the Rangers took the field at Forest Hills Northern for their final game of the season. A win would secure the JV conference championship, and push their win streak to seven games in a row. The boys were ready to put it all on the line for the final time this season.

The game was pretty much a battle of the defenses, as there was little scoring throughout.  The first touchdown of the game, however, did come from the rangers, as sophomore Micah Meadow ran it in for six. The extra point was good, and the Rangers led 7-0 in the first quarter.

The Rangers maintained their lead throughout the entire second quarter, as both defenses held strong and neither offense could gain an edge. Headed into the half, they led 7-0. The third quarter started much like the second half until sophomore Brady Osterhouse scored on a five-yard quarterback keeper. Unfortunately, the extra point was blocked, but this didn’t matter because the Rangers had added an extra cushion to their lead.

For the rest of the third quarter and the fourth, neither team could seem to do anything with the ball. When the time ran out, the scoreboard showed that the Rangers had won 13-0, pushing their record to 7-1 on the season, and winning their 7th straight game. It also secured them the JV conference championship. The boys felt excited that they were able to do it against Northern. Sophomore Jake Kelderman expressed his happiness.

“Beating Northern felt extra special because they are the cross-town rivals and the game was really heated throughout.”

The JV and freshman team will not be back in action until next season, but it’s not hard to assume that they will pick up right where they left off for the 2023 football season.
