This past Saturday, October 11, the girls varsity field hockey team went into their game against Mercy ready for a hopeful victory. Coming off of their victory against Rockford, they wanted to not only add another win in the books but wanted to win for both their senior night and final game of the season. However, they weren’t able to pull through.
The team lost 3-1. Going into the game the girls didn’t know what to expect and Mercy proved to be an impressive team.
“They went after the ball a lot, had very nice passes, and were very aggressive in the circle,” said Maggie Schimeck, junior at Forest Hills Central.
Although they lost, the girls showed high spirits and determination throughout the game. Senior Noelle Stewart at Forest Hills Central displayed this perfectly by scoring in the second quarter. Even with the loss, the girls are going into the postseason with more fire than ever.
These next few weeks leading up to the first game of the postseason, Friday, October 21, the girls will be working harder than ever. With the pressures of doing well this upcoming Friday, the girls know they won’t be able to go into these games unprepared. They will have to be able to react faster, move faster, have stronger plays, and make stronger hits. That means the practices will be much more intense compared to practices earlier this year, but it still will be a fun and memorable few weeks.
“We have a fun week of theme days and those days get very serious where we practice a lot. We are going to dig our heels in and we want to win as many games as possible,” Maggie Schimeck said. “We want to get farther than last year.”
Forest Hills United was able to finish off their regular reason with a record of 9-5-0, but they aren’t going to stop there. Although there isn’t information yet on who they will be playing and where, they will be playing Friday, October 21, for a hopefully chance to win the open conference and even states.
