Boys JV tennis finishes their season with a flurry of victories
Coming off of three significant wins against EGR, South Christian, and Northview, the boys JV tennis team faced off against a multitude of rivalry schools to wrap up the 2022 season. They took on GRC, Northern, and ventured to another Grandville Tri in the last days of September, and came out with notable victories against each school.
First up awaited GRC. Both schools are equally impressive athletic powerhouses, making for a head-to-head between FHC and GRC always one to be anticipated. However, FHC made quick work of their opponent, with nearly all flights triumphing over the Eagles. One doubles set the tone of the day with a 8-2, 6-1 win. Two doubles nearly prevailed, but fell in a tight match 7-8(5). Three doubles also had a close match, but won 8-7(6). Four and five doubles each dropped their first sets, but both came back and took the second sets easily. Overall, the boys had a great day and their performances made for a 6-2 win over GRC.
Five days later, the team traveled to Forest Hills Northern for their biggest match of the season. The rivalry between Forest Hills Central and Forest Hills Northern is unmatched to any other, and the athletic events featuring the two always call out a large crowd. In this matchup, the boys played three sets for each flight, resulting in long, tedious competition that had many ups and downs. One doubles only came away with one set in their match, ending with a 3-6 6-1 3-6 score. Two and four doubles dropped both their matches, unfortunately not winning any sets between the two flights. Three doubles was the star of the day, winning all their sets with a 6-2 6-3 6-2 score. Five doubles let the first two sets go, yet came back with a 6-0 win in the third set. At the end of the day, the team put up a valiant effort, but fell 5-10 to the Huskies.
For their last match of the season, the boys made the journey to Grandville for round two of the Grandville Tri. In this tournament, Grandville and Holland Christian were the unlucky contenders that faced FHC. The team as a whole only lost three sets, performing wonderfully against these two teams. The star tandem of Joseph Song and Keaton Michalski emerged victorious with a 6-3, 7-5 win, setting the tone of the day for the other flights. Three and five doubles followed in their footsteps, both stealing wins with 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2 matches. The two doubles flight unfortunately dropped their match 2-6, 2-6, and four doubles split sets with their score being 3-6, 6-2. To wrap up the 2022 season, the boys came out on top at the Grandville Tri, securing seven wins and only three losses.
The team, led by Mitch Timyan, have shown great prowess and strength in obtaining all the wins that they have over the regular season. This season can be recalled as a stellar replica of last year’s, and they will only continue to excel in the future years. The boys have collectively racked up an impressive 9-3-2 record over the past couple months, and the same can be expected for next year’s season.
