Throughout this week, the NFL has had one of the most chaotic times in its history. From star players going down due to injury to teams who were supposed to be good this year falling off to divisions being very weak, it was just a big mess. Even though this was all going on, games still happened and most importantly, some fantasy football records were broken this weekend. Some of our very own sports reporters broke down another crazy week in fantasy football as they have been for the past couple of months.

Adam-Tyler Lockett SEA WR

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett was coming off of a couple of struggling performances, but he bounced back this week with the best performance by a wide receiver in the history of fantasy football. Lockett caraled in 15 catches for 200 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns. This is arguably the best performance by a wide receiver this year and maybe in the past decade. Lockett was all over the place, beating and burning the Arizona Cardinals secondary. Lockett totaled out at 53 fantasy points, which makes him tied with Aaron Rodgers as the 3rd best performance in fantasy football history.

Mac- Davante Adams GB WR 

It seems like we’re saying this too many times this year. Davante Adams right now is on a hot streak that seems unstoppable. Adams scored fantasy owners 44.6 points this week which locked in a victory for almost every owner. Adams hauled in 13 catches for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns to help secure the Packers a victory over the struggling Houston Texans.

Louis- James Robinson JAX RB

Wow, what an outstanding season James Robinson is having! The undrafted rookie running back has been unbelievable this year considering the low expectations, limited practice time, and no hype around him to start the year. He has been the most surprising fantasy running back this year and it’s not close. This week he had 119 yards and 2 touchdowns to rack up 31.7 fantasy points in a loss against the Chargers. Robinson is now the RB 2 in fantasy overall and fantasy owners have to be overwhelmed with excitement from this young stud!

Best Underrated Player

 

Adam- James Robinson JAX RB

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson has not had the ideal performances that he would have liked to have these past weeks, but he put together a good one this past week against the Chargers. Robinson had 22 carries for 119 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown as well as 4 receptions for 13 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown as he tallied out at just under 32 fantasy points. Robinson continues to put up solid numbers as he now shows that he is the number 1 running back in Jacksonville now. Expect big things to come from Robinson.

Mac- Joe Burrow CIN WR 

Smokin’ Joe has continued to carry his college hot streak through his early NFL career. Burrow has been changing the culture in Cincinnati and started making games very interesting. Though their games have not ended in wins, the Bengals have been playing better football and have been losing close games. Burrow threw for 406 yards with 3 touchdown passes and 1 interception. He completed 35 of his 47 passes and rushed for 34 yards on 6 carries.

Louis- Giovani Bernard CIN RB

Bernard was the main back this week in Cincinnati with Joe Mixon injured and he showed that he can still play. The backup running back for the Bengals has not had many touches this season with Mixon as the lead back. But, this week when he got the touches, he capitalized. Bernard did not do much on the ground with only 13 carries for 37 yards, but through the air is where he found the most success. He had 5 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown to go along with 20.9 fantasy points. Bernard filled Mixon’s role very well but as soon as Mixon returns, his production will decrease.

Booms of the Week

 

Adam- Kyler Murray ARI QB

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has had a great season so far this year, and he showed yet again that he can compete with the best of the after he won in a showdown with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on Sunday night. Murray completed 34 of his 48 passing attempts for 360 passing yards as well as 3 passing touchdowns. He also showed that he could keep it on the ground as well. Murray had 14 carries for 67 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown. Murray had a final score of just over 37.1 fantasy points, and again showed a flash of brilliance this past week.

Mac-Tom Brady TB QB

43 years of age and still throwing like he’s 20. I guess you can say Tom ages like fine wine. Brady threw 45 passes completing 33 of them for 369 yards and 4 touchdowns. This performance scored fantasy owners 36.9 points. The Buccaneers keep getting better and better this season so it would be smart to start Tom in future games.

Louis- Justin Herbert LAC QB

Through the first 5 games of his career, Herbert has been a force to be reckoned with. He has had 14 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions and looks like a veteran on the field. This week he went to work on one of the worst defenses in the NFL, the Jaguars. He threw for 347 yards and accounted for 4 touchdowns to go along with 38.48 fantasy points. He is making a strong case for rookie of the year and is looking fantastic so far. Justin Herbert is a star in the making, the Chargers have to be happy with the way he is looking right now.

Busts of the Week

 

Adam- Ezekiel Elliot DAL RB

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot didn’t have the performance he wanted last week when he faced the Cardinals last week, but was looking to redeem himself as he came into this week’s matchup against the 1 win Washington Football Team. Elliot had just the opposite as he had only 12 carries for 45 rushing yards and 1 catch for 6 receiving yards. He scored no touchdowns on either side of the ball. I don’t know if I would keep Elliot in my lineup. I would put him on the bench for this week as he is doing less and less for the Cowboys every week.

Mac- Josh Jacobs OAK RB

Josh Jacobs had emerged as a star earlier in the season. He started out the season with 35.9 point game and continued to play well up until yesterday. Oakland struggled in their game against Tampa Bay and this was because of a run game that was non existent for the Raiders. Jacobs ran for 17 yards on 10 carries and caught 3 passes for 14 yards. Hopefully he does not struggle like this again.

Louis- DK Metcalf SEA WR

Although DK Metcalf probably had the best play of the year in the Sunday night game against the Cardinals, it was on defense. The rundown tackle on Budda Baker was ridiculously insane and just goes to show how freakishly athletic this guy is. But, for fantasy owners, he did not impress. In his historic performance, Tyler Lockett took all the targets away from Metcalf. DK only ended up with 2 catches for 23 yards and an underwhelming 4.3 fantasy points in a loss against Arizona. This was Metcalf’s only game where he had under 14.6 fantasy points so do not trade this stud receiver.

Players to Start

 

Adam- 49ers Defense/Special Teams

Coming into these past 2 weeks matchup wise, I didn’t see the 49ers defense as bright as they were projected to be, but did they prove me wrong. The 49ers defense shut down an electric New England Patriots offense led by newly acquired quarterback Cam Newton. The 49ers defense had 16 fantasy points to end the day, and proved the whole fantasy world wrong as they put up fantastic numbers this past week.

Mac- Antonio Brown TB WR

The NFL needs to stop allowing Tampa Bay to get weapons for Tom Brady. As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, knowing that AB is coming back into one of the best offenses in the league, Tampa Bay might become one of the most dominant teams this year and win a Super bowl. Who knows, maybe the Steelers will get their revenge against AB in the Super Bowl or maybe the world of professional football will be surprised in any other way possible.

Louis- D’Andre Swift DET RB

D’Andre Swift has the potential to be a great running back in the NFL… if Lions coach Matt Patricia used him right. Swift is not getting nearly enough carries for the rare talent that he is. But, his carries have been slowly increasing since the bye week and with those carries, he has been able to put up better numbers. Swift is the RB 24 in fantasy and is averaging 14 points per game. In most of his games, he ends up in the 10-20 point range, which is very reliable for a young back. Swift should be a weekly start in most leagues.

Players to Bench

 

Adam- Le’Veon Bell KC RB

Kansas City’s newly signed running back Le’Veon Bell was expected to get a lot more reps this week heading into Denver to face the mediocre Broncos. Bell had just the opposite as he only had 3.1 fantasy points as he got fewer reps than expected. Fantasy owners: if you own Le’Veon Bell, do not start him. Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be getting more playing time than Bell, so do not expect a lot from him to carry your fantasy team to a miraculous win.

Mac- Melvin Gordon DEN RB

Melvin is playing well for the Broncos this year. He has put up okay rushing stats, but Phillip Lindsay has returned from injury as is putting up similar stats who some can argue are actually better. The Broncos may look to start Lindsay during the season and Gordons time may take a cut if he does not perform well.

Louis- Tua Tagovailoa MIA QB

Dolphin’s first-round draft pick and rookie Tua Tagovailoa is getting his first start on Sunday. Although it will be very exciting to see how he does in his first week starting, I do not think it will go very well. He is facing a tough Rams defense and the best defensive player in the league, Aaron Donald. The Rams pass rush is one of the best and will undoubtedly get to Tua and make him uncomfortable in the pocket. I think Tua will be great in the league, just not this week.
