Theryn Hallock shines in girls varsity basketball’s 49-33 win over FHN
Junior Theryn Hallock dominated this past Friday against Forest Hills Northern as she scored 28 points in the girls varsity basketball team’s 49-33 win over the Huskies. It wasn’t just the offensive side producing a lot of that game-changing momentum for the Rangers either as they got a lot of great defensive possessions to seal the game for them.
“We played great team defense,” senior captain Zoe Lipke said. “Those great defensive runs gave us a lot of looks on the other end in transition.”
Zoe wasn’t wrong as Theryn scored a lot of her points in the fastbreak as that’s what helped the Lady Rangers seal the game in the end.
“We have been really determined to work for our games,” Theryn said, “in the end, we have never played this much as a team and this well as a team. It’s awesome.”
To start off the game, the Lady Rangers looked to put a lot of pressure on the dominant FHN offense. The game was neck and neck in the first quarter, but the Rangers pushed the ball towards the end of the first half and created a 9-2 run that would put them up 21-14 at the half.
In the second half, the Rangers executed perfectly against the Huskies as they produced 10 points within the first three minutes of the second half compared to the Huskies’ two. Senior Ava Metaj and freshman Ashtyn Scarlato both provided a lot of good minutes for the Lady Rangers. The girls had a solid game on the boards and created a lot of loose balls that would set up great baskets in transition. The Lady Rangers never looked back in the fourth quarter as they dominated both sides of the ball and ran away with the 49-33 win over the Huskies.
The Lady Rangers are now 2-0 and are looking solid in two great wins over Northview and now FHN. They will play the Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian at GRC this Tuesday, February 16th at 7 PM in a very tough matchup that will set the tone of the season for the Lady Rangers.
