Girls cross country team makes it to state meet, guys make it individually

Freshman Clara James-Heer and junior Sam Yeager led the way yet again for the Rangers cross country team as the girl’s team made it to the state meet while the guy’s team missed, but had 2 individuals make it to the state meet. Those individuals were Sam and sophomore Ethan Krampe as they took care of business and made the cutoff time for the state meet.

“Overall, it was a great day for both sides,” head coach Ryan Schipper said. “All of our runners had some of their best performances of the year as we had a lot of state qualifiers.”

The guys took off first and as we have seen a lot this year, Ethan and Sam went out strong out of the gates. Sam was the top finisher for the guys as he finished in 5th place with a time of 16:18. Ethan came in just behind him as he finished in 7th place with a time of 16:19. Other notable finishers on the guy’s side were senior Tanner Wooden who finished in 36th place. Altogether, the team finished in 6th place, but we will still see Sam and Ethan in the state meet next weekend.

The girls took off next and, just like the guys, they had 2 people strong out of the gates. The first finishers for the lady Rangers were Clara who finished in 1st place with a time of 18:03 and senior Whitney Currie who finished in 6th place with a time of 18:29. The lady Rangers had another notable finisher with freshman Peyton Ludiwg bringing up the rear with an 18th place finish with a time of 19:17. Overall, the lady Rangers finished in 3rd place, but it was a good enough performance to qualify for the state meet.

The Rangers will look to win a state championship as a team and individually at the Michigan International Speedway this Saturday, November 7th.
