For most spring sports, seasons finished a few weeks ago. However, that isn’t the case for all teams. The girls varsity soccer team took on the state semifinals in style on Wednesday, June 15 when it faced off against Gull Lake.

“We were ready to come out strong and we know what we need to do in this game in order to get the result we wanted,” senior Theryn Hallock said. “It was revenge time, and we were ready to get after it.”

Going into the game, the Lady Rangers were pumped up and ready to take what would hopefully be another win to inch them one game closer to the state finals.

“I was extremely excited going into last night’s game,” senior Katie Hurbanis said. “Once again, it was another chance to step on the field with this team. We also have some revenge on our minds going into tonight’s game since Gull Lake did beat us previously. With this group and how we have developed, I am confident that if we play our game, we will be able to advance to the finals. Considering how hot it is going to be tonight we need to stay focused mentally and physically, and if we do that I have no doubt we can get this dub.”

After it was all said and done, the Lady Rangers won 3-1 over Gull Lake with two goals by Theryn Hallock and one goal by Katie Hurbanis.

“[This win] felt so good,” Mattie Sexton said. “It was great to go out there and get revenge on them when we were the underdogs. We played great as a team and really came together tonight to show them what we are made of.”

The Lady Rangers play their state finals game at 4:00 p.m, on Saturday, June 18, at Michigan State University.

“This team has worked really hard to come together and earn the opportunity to play today,” head coach Ashley Ludtke said. “I am very excited for them. We are prepared to take the field and battle tonight. It is going to be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to watching them fight for the win.”
