Ranger ski team competes well at Regionals as Abby McAlindon qualifies for states

On Monday, February 8th, the FHC ski team competed in Regionals to finish off the 2021 season. Monday held some good weather, and the team was excited to perform in the last race of the season. The skiers always look forward to Regionals, wanting to put forth their best skills and make it count when it really matters.

Senior Abby McAlindon led the team as the only skier to qualify for states, which will take place on Monday, February 22nd at Boyne Highlands Resort. At Regionals, Abby took fourth on the SL with a combined time of 1:06:84, and took ninth on the GS with a time of 55.16. With these times, Abby is able to move onto the state championships and represent FHC among many other talented skiers.

Senior Autumn Shook also showed well at this race; she finished the SL with a combined time of 1:22:82 to take 35th, becoming FHC’s second-best skier behind Abby. Senior Eden Growney was the second skier on the GS, taking 31st with a final time of 1:00.05. For the boys team, sophomore Thomas Carano was the first skier for FHC on the SL, finishing 28th with a time of 1:13:59. Junior Charley Mehney was FHC’s top skier for the GS, finishing in 29th with a time of 59.56.

“Regionals was a blast. Everyone on the team put their best foot forward, and it was one of the most normal races this season we had. Our athletes had great runs, and everyone maintained a positive attitude through the day even when met with an unforeseen challenge,” Autumn said. “I couldn’t be happier with the season and the supportive team we had this year, and it was an amazing way to finish my high school ski team experience.”
