The JV baseball team took on East Grand Rapids in a doubleheader on Monday, May 9. Between the games, the Rangers scored 35 runs and the Pioneers scored just two. Many plays came from players who finally stepped into their own spotlight.

Game one had slow offense on both sides until the third inning when the Ranger JV team scored seven runs. The clutch hitters included sophomores Matthew Curtis, Alex Brown, Val Wals, Jacob Harleton, and freshman Max Richardson. Ace pitcher Matthew Seurynck got the start for the Rangers and lasted six innings while striking out seven hitters.

A big contributor to the victory was Val with an inside-the-park home run to boost the score and the team’s morale. Game one would end with an 11-1 score.

Game two ended in an even bigger blowout. In just the first inning, the boys came to play. The bats were hot and 19 runs came and went, just like that; the number of hits was astronomical. One notable knock came from sophomore Trevor Williams with a shot into center field and even a flashy bat-flip to top it all off. JV baseball won via the “mercy rule” in the third inning with a final score of 24-1.

JV baseball will play next Wednesday, May 11, at 4:15 pm at EGR. With only one loss on the season, the boys look to keep up their hot streak.
