Forest Hills Central track and field raced against six opponents this past weekend in the Red Hawk Invitational. The team utilized this opportunity to showcase its talent and prepare for future meets. Many of the races saw huge successes and even a school record was broken. 

The talk of the meet was the FHC men’s 4-by-800 team which shattered the previous school record. With a time of 8 minutes and 5.57 seconds, the team consisting of Sam Yeager, Ethan Krampe, Will Banfield, and Jacob Sanford broke FHC’s previous record and managed to take second in the race.

The 3200-meter race also saw Ranger talent with Ethan Krampe taking first place with a time of 9 minutes and 44.02 seconds. Close behind were Parker Ludwig and Sawyer McCarthey with times of 10 minutes and 6.41 seconds and 10 minutes and 31.40 seconds.

The women’s 400-meter race was by Lauryn Gaskin and Gwen Lamport, who took third and fifth. Gaskin completed the run in 1 minute and 4.51 seconds with Lamport following with a time of 1 minute and 5.23 seconds.

Also, Sam Yeager took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.91 seconds and fellow senior Evan Boucher took fifth with a time of 52.94 seconds. 

“This meet allowed a lot of the team to set personal records, especially distance who broke the 4-by-800-meter race record,” Evan said when asked about the team’s capabilities.

In the field, sophomore Brooke Bowers took first place in women’s pole vault with a height of 12 feet and 4 inches. Senior Will Richardson took fifth place with a shot put throw of 38 feet and 2 inches.

The Rangers showed grit and determination at the Red Hawk Invitational and continue to improve. The next meet will be on Thursday, May 12, at Lowell at 4:00 PM.
