May has just arrived, and that means the last few weeks of spring sports have, too. The girls varsity water polo team continues to work hard to defend its name each game as districts and conferences creep up.

The team has been working endlessly to make a comeback and add some wins to its belt. The girls were successful on Monday, May 2, when they took on Mason in hopes of coming out with a win on Forest Hills’ senior night.

Both teams battled neck-and-neck to pull off the victory and after weeks of practice, the Forest Hills team won with a final score of 11-9.

“I think we did really well and have shown so much improvement since the beginning of the season,” junior Sydney VanLente said.

This win means a lot for the girls going into districts and puts them ahead of their competition going into next week when they battle it out to make it further in the tournament.

“This game was a district seeding game, which helps us when we go into districts next weekend and having this win makes us feel amazing,” sophomore Ashley Schenck said.

The team plays next on Friday, May 6, against Grand Haven when it will look to send itself into a higher seed going into districts.

“It feels great as it was senior night tonight,” Sydney VanLente said. “Having a successful game is wonderful.”
