Over the weekend, the varsity baseball team went 1-1 against Caledonia and Greenville and while a shoot-out loss to Caledonia on Friday showed some weaknesses, a win over Greenville on Saturday showed more strengths from the underclassmen on the team.

Hosting a state-contending Caledonia team on Friday, the Rangers looked to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss at Lowell just a couple of days before. Both offenses were firing on all cylinders, going back and forth all game long. In the end, Caledonia shut down the FHC offense late in the game to skid away with a 10-9 win. A lot of mistakes during the game by FHC both at the field and at the plate showed weaknesses that needed to be addressed, but a close game against a great Fighting Scots team showed the resilience of the Rangers.

After falling close to Caledonia the day before, FHC made the long travel up to Greenville to make up a postponed game from a couple of weeks ago. Sophomore Carson Custer took the bump against the Yellow Jackets and had his way. He struck out 14 batters while giving up minimal hits all game long.

Fellow sophomore call-up Josh Tellier also got a key hit in the Greenville game, propelling the Rangers to a 6-1 win to get back on track after a rough week of games.

After a 2-3 week, the Rangers are now sitting at a 9-5 record this season. A busy week of games starts out with a three-game series against another great conference opponent in Grand Rapids Christian. The first two games will be played on Monday, May 2, at Grand Rapids Christian and both teams will finish out the series on Wednesday at FHC in a single game.
