Forest Hills Central track and field met at Houseman Field for the Grand Rapids Elite Challenge and faced off against twenty-three different teams. This meet was invite-only, and the Rangers saw some of their top performances yet. This meet was an extremely competitive environment with the most elite schools and teams present. Despite the challenge, FHC proved they are a highly competitive team.

The men’s 800-meter dash was one of the Ranger’s biggest victories, with Sam Yeager taking first place with a time of 1 minute and 55.21 seconds. Not only did Sam take first in the meet, but he also set the record for the fastest high school 800 time in the state of Michigan. 

“After the race, I was speechless and filled with joy for breaking the school record! It felt like all of my hard work paid off,” Sam said.

The women’s 800-meter dash saw Peyton Ludwig take third overall with a time of 2 minutes and 24.48 seconds.

Men’s and women’s 400-meter dash was another impressive event for the Rangers. Evan Boucher took fourth place with a time of 53.82 seconds and Zenash Cummings took fifth place with a time of 1 minute and 3.47-second run.

The Rangers continued to show their talent in the 4×400 meter dash with the men taking first overall and the women taking second. The men’s team consisted of Evan Boucher, Jayden Savin, Max Meadow, and Sam Yeager and completed the race in an outstanding 3 minutes and 35.46 seconds. The women’s 4×400 was run by Gwen Lamport, Lauryn Gaskin, Peyton Ludwig, and Zenash Cummings and secured a time of 4 minutes and 23.84 seconds.

FHC pole vault performed at its highest level yet with Matthew Burns taking fourth place with a height of 10 feet and 6 inches and Brooke Bowers secured first place with a vault of 11 feet and 9 inches.

The Ranger track and field team shows continuous growth and improvement as states approach and the season is being highly anticipated. The next opportunity to see FHC track and field will be on Tuesday, May 3, at East Grand Rapids High School, at 4:15 p.m.
