The girls JV softball team starts off the season with an 0-3 record

With girls on the JV softball team learning the ways of the game and the way of the team, the Lady Rangers are off to a rough start. In some of the girls’ first-ever game, the team faced off against the Greenville Yellow Jackets and lost after being mercied.

In the second game, the girls played on the home field for the first time against a stronger competitor in West Catholic. The girls played their hardest but fell behind in the final few innings and lost.

“The season has been going alright. The hardest part is learning new positions,” Molly said. “But, the best part about being an older member is you get to help others out.”

Double-headers are difficult; they strain the body and the mind. Still, the exhaustion would not stop the girls from battling the Lowell Red Arrows. When it was all said and done, the girls lost their first game 16-1 and the second game 14-3.

Despite the losses, coach Udell is proud of how hard the girls are working, not letting anything stand between them and growing as a team.

The team is getting better and better every day. All of the girls are working hard to improve their softball skills; we are 0-3 but in one of the games we outhit the other team,” coach Udell said.

The girl’s next game is Friday, April 29, at West Ottawa High School for yet another double-header beginning at 4:00 PM.

“I think everyone has been improving over the past few weeks,” Gabby Thompson said. “We haven’t had wins on the field but I think we’ve won within our team and our chemistry.”
