With another weekend quad behind the girls varsity tennis team, improvements are already showing throughout the young roster. The girls faced off once again against Birmingham Seaholm, along with Portage Central and Grosse Pointe North.

In the first match of the day, FHC took on Seaholm, losing 7-1. Although the team lost, the strength of the two singles was again highlighted. Lily Ohlman conquered once again, winning two of her three matches.

The three doubles flight had a good showing by also going to two matches. The young tandem of Abby Gleason and Hailey Miller is emerging as a very solid duo for the end of the season after they have gained some in-game experience. Other flights won games including the one doubles flight, fourth doubles flight, and even the alternate flight of fifth doubles.

While the team hasn’t started off as hot as it wanted, it has been working hard in practice every day and trusting the process.

“I have been practicing every day,” junior captain Brooke Kushak said. “I have just been getting in as many reps as possible.”

While some of the captains have been in situations like this mid-season when they are pushing for a goal, some of the younger players are experiencing this for the first time.

“It has been fun to be a part of this team,” sophomore Hailey Miller said. “I am enjoying the challenge of playing at this level and learning as I play.”
