The girls varsity water polo team goes 0-4 in the past week
The spring sports season only has a few weeks left of competition and the FH girls water polo team is putting its all into every game it plays, and the girls had a long weekend of games.
On Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, the team had a total of four games with its first game being against Zeeland on Friday. Saturday saw games against Jenison, Stevenson, and Grandville to see a strong win for the FH team.
“I think the team is doing a lot better getting back on defense,” sophomore Ashley Schenck said. “Although we lost the last few games, we lost by less than when we last faced the teams.”
First up on Friday, the team faced off against Zeeland in a close battle for the win. Both teams put in everything they had, and in Zeeland’s case, it had a little more to give. The FH team fell 5-3, and despite the loss, it wouldn’t be the team’s last chance of the weekend to pull off a win.
Next, the team competed on Saturday and had three chances to show off its skills to teams around the state. First, on Saturday, the team went up against Jenison and after an extremely close nail-biter, the team fell 7-6 to the Jenison girls.
Following this loss, the team was hopeful to add a win to its record, but unfortunately, Stevenson got the best of the girls and beat them 11-2. In the last game of the day for the team, it played Grandville again in its last chance for a win. But, after four periods of play, the team walked away with a 10-1 loss to Grandville as well.
The girls will have another chance to show their talent on April 26, at home against West Ottawa.
“I think the team is continuing to improve in every aspect and we are all excited to play more games,” junior Sydney VanLente said.
