Rugby finds itself falling short to Portage Central during Friday’s rainstorm

Game number two for the Forest Hills Rugby Club imposed a natural challenge Friday, as a torrential rainstorm crashed down onto the pitch while the boys faced off against Portage Central. In the last contest, FH was defeated by Kentwood RC by a score of 31-3. This time around, the boys looked to open up things on the offensive end and continue to strengthen up the defensive end.

In the first half, the boys played a very strong defensive game, as they held Portage Central to just one try. At the end of the first half, the boys went into the locker room down 7-0.

In the second half, the boys were unable to get anything going on the offensive end. The storms continued to come down, and Portage Central picked up its pace on the offensive end. The Mavericks scored three more tries, as they won the game by a final score of 28-0.

Forest Hills falls now to 0-2 on the season and enters next week with just three games left in the regular season. The next game for the squad will be this upcoming Friday, April 29, versus Sparta, and the boys will continue to look to try and create something on the offensive end.

“We’re gonna need to try and slow down and stay more organized when we’re on the offensive end,” senior Cam DeWitt said. “We need to start getting antsy with the ball, but if we start staying level-headed and calm, then we’ll be able to push the defense back big-time.”
