Girls varsity basketball opens season with dominant 65-34 win over Northview
Junior Theryn Hallock led the girls varsity basketball team last night as she scored 22 points en route to a 65-34 win over the Northview Wildcats in the season opener. After almost a year out of action, the Lady Rangers are back in full gear as this gives them a huge confidence boost going into their next games.
Along with Theryn, senior Zoe Lipke scored 16 points, and senior Ava Metaj chipped in 8 points. Along with the scoring from the starters, freshman Ashtyn Scarlato had 9 points off the bench for the Rangers. Even with all of their scoring, they played outstanding on the defensive side of the ball, holding the tough Wildcat offense to a modest 34 points.
From the beginning, it was clear that the Lady Rangers were there to play. From the start of the first half, it was all FHC as the Rangers went on an early run to start off the first quarter, but it stalled out a little bit at the end of the quarter. As the second quarter started though, the Rangers found some more momentum late, and at the end of the first half, the Rangers were on top 35-12.
As the second half started, the Lady Rangers turned to the bench for a lot of their second-half production to get them some valuable reps in a fast-paced season. Senior Audrey Sidebotham had 6 points in the second half, and in total, along with Ashytn who produced a lot of great looks for the Lady Rangers in that second half. As the minutes ticked down on the clock, the margin of victory seemed to get bigger and bigger. The Ranger played outstanding defense the whole second half as they pulled away with a 65-34 statement win.
The Lady Rangers are now 1-0 as they will look to play a familiar foe this Friday in the Forest Hills Northern Huskies. That game will start at 7 PM, and soon after, they will turn right around to play a tough Grand Rapids Christian team next week Tuesday.
