FHC track and field faced off against multiple opponents in the OK White Quad. The Rangers overwhelmed Byron Center, Northview, and Lowell this past Tuesday and the team is steadily improving.

One of the most consistent successes of the track team has been the 100-meter dash, and this meet was no exception. Junior Max Meadows took second with a time of 11.68 seconds and senior Conner Milton was close behind in third with a time of 11.74 seconds. On the girls team, Lucy Yoder clocked in at 13.83 seconds to take second and Lauren Gaskin finished in third with a time of 13.89 seconds.

Conner also conquered the 200-meter dash by coming in first place with a winning time of 23.91 seconds. Lauryn and Lucy clinched first and second place as well with times of 28.78 and 29.65 seconds, respectively.

The field events saw senior Will Richardson overpower the shot put with a 37-foot and 8-inch throw to secure third place. Lotta Peterson threw a distance of 28-feet and 9-inches to take fourth for the girls team.

Pole vault was run by FHC as well, with Brooke Bowers taking home first place with a 10-foot vault. Close behind was Abigail Cummings with an 8-foot and 6-inch vault to place third.

Matthew Burns represented the boys with an 11-foot and 6-inch vault that gave him second place and Alex Kaufmann was close behind, taking fifth with a 9-foot and 6-inch vault.

“I feel like overall we had a great performance; the mindset going into the meet was one of determination,” senior leader Jayden Savin said. “We wanted to get some raw times to build our season off of.”

The Ranger track team did just that and put some outstanding times on the board, setting the bar higher than ever. The next FHC track and field meet will be on Saturday, April 23, at 9:00 AM at the Catholic Central Athletic Complex (C.A.T.).
