RGSO came out on Friday night ready to put on quite the show against Grand Haven, as the veteran core and youth of this team showcased why this team is so highly ranked in the division. FHC came into the game ranked number three in Division 2 and looked to build off of its strong game against Byron Center on Tuesday.

The Rangers lit up the scoring column as seniors Lauren Koczenasz and Theryn Hallock scored hat tricks. Senior Livy Bowling scored a goal in the game, and sophomore Zariah Knuff added one more to help FHC complete the 8-0 mercy. All season, the defensive core of seniors Stella Sutton, Mattie Sexton, Maggie Hier, junior Gracie Vermeulen, and sophomore Gigi Sinicrope have worked flawlessly with senior goalie Ava Wilberding as they have been able to shut out two straight opponents.

The Rangers are now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The upcoming week for RGSO will see them facing off with two OK White opponents, as it will face off with both Greenville and its rival Forest Hills Northern. The morale on the team remains high heading into this week, especially after the girls were about to capture both shutout victories.

“I think the mercy was not only a great opportunity for us to try new people in new positions and find combinations of people that worked together but also really put us on the map,” senior Claudia Folkert said. “It showed people that we are a real contender for the state title this year. It means a ton knowing this whole roster can step up when it’s game time.”
