Girls varsity soccer takes home its first victory of the new season

Following a close loss against Gull Lake on Wednesday, RGSO took a mindset of vengeance to the pitch. For the second time this week, the girls would hit the road as they would travel to Caledonia to take on the Fighting Scots. The girls suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss prior to this game, so the game plan was simple: bounce back.

The game was tight throughout the whole 90 minutes, as the Rangers’ defense stepped up huge once again. Allowing no goals throughout the whole game helped the Rangers control almost the entire match.

With being just 10 minutes into the game, senior Theryn Hallock opened up the scoring column as she had the only goal of the night. The girls took advantage of that one goal; they won a very close game by a score of 1-0. The Rangers have been consistent night in and night out on the offense end, as this has now been proven in the first two games of the season.

“I think our key factors on offense are trusting our back and midfield to protect the ball and move it up the field to provide opportunities for all the forwards that play on the outside; they do a great job of doing this, so it’s always good to continue to trust and play with them,” Hallock said. “As much speed as we have up top, it’s key to know when to take advantage of it. On breakaways and corners, it’s definitely beneficial to use them.”

The Rangers are now 1-1 on the season and are moving on to some nice relaxation with Spring Break starting this upcoming week.
