Girls varsity tennis looks to make a run at states this season
As the spring approaches, girls varsity tennis season has arrived at FHC. Following a somewhat underwhelming season last year, the girls look to make a state tournament run this year.
With seasoned head coach Dan Bolhouse back for another season, all 16 girls have a great motivator to help them improve their game day. With a great nose for talent, coach Bolhouse has one of the youngest teams he has ever had, consisting of nine underclassmen.
“Coach Dan is great at finding young talent,” senior captain Libby Moog said. “The underclassmen on this team play at a high level and are only going to get better.”
With three years of varsity tennis already under her belt, Libby is looking for a bounce-back season after a concussion early last season disabled her from play. As a freshman, Libby made her debut at one singles, proving to be the best player on the team. Now, as a senior, the fight for the number one spot is intense. Sophomore Lily Ohlman beat out Libby last year to claim her spot; the matchup this year for the one singles flight will surely be intense.
This year, the team is as good or better than any team over the last four years. FHC is looking to make a run at states for the first time since the 2019 season.
“The combination of experience and young talent on this team is like no team that I’ve ever been on,” Libby said. “Hopefully we can get it done this year and make some noise.”
Overall, as the team looks to make a run at states, the preparation and improvement over the season will be key to how successful the team will become later on. The young team has raw talent–with some carefully cultivated adjustments, it could be one of the most dominant teams in recent history.
