Stellar Senior-Night performances from Theryn Hallock and Madison Wilkins give FHC a 75-45 win over Greenville

Theryn Hallock’s record-breaking performance on Senior Night was the perfect way to celebrate her and the team’s greatness over the past few years. In the 75-45 win over Greenville on Tuesday night, Theryn tallied another school record by dropping 50 points. On her way to breaking this record, she also scored her 1,500th point for the Rangers; it was a fitting night for number four in one of her last games in an FHC jersey.

“She is a one-of-a-kind player,” head coach Kristina Prins said. “To go out on Senior Night like that was amazing!”

The close game the previous Friday against Grand Rapids Christian only fueled the girls more to get a win and a jolt of momentum right before the postseason was underway.

Fellow senior Madison Wilkins also had a great game, playing great defense all game long. The steadfast senior scored 2 points and made some great passes that led to scores. On the defensive end, she blocked a couple of shots too. Along with Madison, junior Delaney Smith rallied FHC on the defensive side of the ball, tallying a number of steals and scoring 6 points on offense.

The close first quarter on Tuesday was a run-off of the matchup between the teams just a couple of weeks ago. Juniors Thea Sloat and Maya Holser both scored a basket, while sophomore Maggie Sneider came off the bench and scored a basket as well. However, at the end of the first, a 17-16 lead wasn’t what the Rangers were looking for.

Unlike the first quarter, the second quarter was full of scoring and swarming defense. It was the Hallock show the entire quarter, as she scored 16 of the team’s 20 points. Alongside her, freshman Jordan Koning got a nice mid-range shot to go in. To add to that, Delaney got a layup on a fastbreak late in the half. At the end of the first half, FHC maintained a 37-20 lead.

The second half was pure domination from the Lady Rangers. Again, Theryn just kept filling up the stat sheets with countless points and a couple of steals, blocks, and rebounds. Maggie and Delaney both scored a layup on fastbreaks, and the Yellow Jackets could not find an answer to the Rangers’ offensive barrage. After yet another great ending to the third quarter, the fourth saw more of the same from the Rangers. Theryn reached 50 points on the night, and the bench got some great minutes against Greenville’s starting five. FHC ran out the clock and finished the game strong, solidifying a 75-45 blowout win.

Now, the Lady Rangers are 9-10 this season and 5-8 in conference play. The last game of the season will be this Friday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. against OK White champion Byron Center. After that tough home matchup, the ladies will start postseason play against Northview at home next Monday.
