Girls JV basketball has a great defensive showing against Grand Rapids Christian
On Friday, the girls JV basketball team faced off against Grand Rapids Christian. The girls played really tough defense and earned a check in the win column, topping the Eagles 42-38.
Led by Claire Marvin with great performances both offensively and defensively, the team achieved a huge win over conference opponent Grand Rapids Christian. Claire led the team in scoring with 12 points.
In just the third game as a team, the freshman/JV combined team is performing at a high level. Beating a historically high-caliber program like Grand Rapids Christian is enough to celebrate. This game meant more for this team than just a win though; the girls see it as an upward turn. As the start of the season was not the best performance, the girls have started to turn up the intensity since the combination of the teams and are playing the best they have all season.
The girls have been putting up more points in the last week than they did at the beginning of the season. Although they have put up more points, their defense still wasn’t where they wanted it to be.
“All week long we practiced on our defense,” head coach Javontae Ford stated. “It definitely showed in the game.”
As the defensive showcase was evident for viewers of the game, it is also evident that the team is on an upward trend. FHC has 3 games this week, facing Lowell to finish it off. If the defense can step up again, there will likely be a different outcome than the first time it took on the Red Arrows.
The girls face off against Greenville on Tuesday, January 25. They will look to build on the win against Christian in the previous week and come back even stronger.
